important! New regulation: the submission of a thesis must include three reports
According to the new regulations (Real Decreto 576/2023, dated July 4), starting from October 1, 2024, the submission of a thesis ("depósito") must include three reports:
1. Two reports issued by two external doctoral experts in the relevant field, who may suggest areas for improvement. These experts can be part of the committee evaluating the thesis. If applying for international recognition, the reports must be issued by experts from a non-Spanish higher education institution or research institute.
2. A report from the thesis director indicating whether the suggested improvements from these reports have been incorporated into the final draft of the doctoral thesis.
All three reports must be included in the thesis submission documentation presented to the Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program.

According to the new regulations students of third year (full time) or fifth year (part time) do not need to ask ex'plicitly for one year (full time) or two years (part time) extension of their studies
